Grieving for Malaysia!

Will this be another 'angry' post by abe?
I hope past posts didn't sounded that im very angry.
I'm just a little bit troubled and distresssed.
More nonsense emerge in our country.
Am not going to talk about politics here because it is already a joke.

look at the news line: Green light for coal-fired power plant
Why are we moving backward? Using technology of 30 years ago?
Or perhaps Najib is too IGNORANT about the scienc of climate change and global warming.
Or maybe Minister Peter Chin is sleeping!
What is the point of having a ministry of green tech and bla bla (whatever name la)
Cause who cares la..name only ma...Not reflecting anything with this high profile portfolio.

Once the Pandora's Box is open, no way we can recontain the things out! even shutting the box. the evil is still out. why are we opening more of the box?

PM Najib,

you have failed environmentalist and the rakyat again!
You seem to be left out in the world's concern on global warming and climate change.
That threatens even the survivorship of human race.
Or you only concerned about how much money you can tap with this project?
Don't we have enough fossil fuel power plant?
What about renewable?

VC USM,
Please Tan Sri, we cannot fail in our role to educate the people about sustainability.
Looking at the development, I said we fail to warn our leaders.
Keep on enlighten the people out of ignorance.
Why are we not doing anything? Not even a single advice given?
Is CETREE in the shelf? Or just for show only?

I am going to send following protest email to the PM and Minister.
Please do copy this and email too. I know it will not change the outcome.
But i cannot just sit and see it. Join me by sending them:

Dear PM Najib:

I, concerned citizen of Malaysia are troubled with the recent announcement by the government giving the green light to the coal-fired power plant at Lahad Datu.
I strongly disagree with the decision looking at the impact to the environment it does.
There is no more debate on the issue of climate change and global warming.
Are you not concern as well?
Coming UNFCCC meeting in Copenhagen will witness a new wave of actions, adaptations and mitigations to combat climate change by world leaders.
What is Malaysia's stand?

Thank you for the time reading this.

Abe Woo
Concerned Citizen of Malaysia
USM Penang

send to: http://www3.pmo.gov.my/emaklum/PMFeedback.nsf/logv1?openform
I have sent it. Let's see what will happen.
Do send them too to voice out our concern

Dear grieved abe woo,

can you pls do more research on the topic of global warming, climate change and sustainability?? Do you know some of the policy of these will affect poor people? As a concerned usm student, i just feel that you can gain popularity in talking all these topics like al gore. Do more research on sustainable development, i bet you don't know well about its origin. Anyway, do you worship earth?

Dear anonymous,

Thank you for your kind advice on getting myself more equipped with knowledge on GW,CC and SD. As far as im concern, my beliefs are right backed by sound scientific research.

I dont claim i know everything. In fact im still learning. I am surprised you talked like a person well-versed in these topic but seems don't understand what is SD all about.

I did not oppose the electricty generation in that part of our country. I did not oppose the government to help raise the living standard of the people. The trick lies in the methodology. I dont want to elaborate on the failing coal technology and relations to the climate. IT IS TOO OBVIOUS..please do update yourself on current environment movement internationally and you will know why a BIG NO to coal.

Who needs coal when there is more powerful future technology at your nose? SD also about not compromising the ecology itself that ensures survivorship of being on earth while you develop your livelihood.

I dont claim any fame from doing these. what glory do i hold? i apologize because you made me really worry about USM failing again to realize its APEX vision building generation that is well-informed and Sustainability-oriented graduate.

Thank you for you concern

abe

p/s i DONT worship earth
I agree al gore is making a lot of fame and money

Why you want to worry about usm failing its vision? Don't you think that students have diverse opinion is a good thing? You are actually contradicting yourself.

Look at the RM 450million Sains Park and its facilities--reflexology,day care centre..? You know or not? Tell me about what sustainability is this and what to do with our Apex Research university?

Please please update yourself. Open your mind. One reason of the so called environmental movement is popular internationally because of media bombastic. Take an example. When you open the internet and you search for global warming-- all you can see about is this scare mongering thing. Don't you know?

Again, dont you think that usm students. Why

Dont judge behalf of USM.USM will failed because only people like you who narrow minded

i am sorry about the comment earlier. that one is draft. i've sent the wrong one. Please ignore. This is the correct one.

Why you want to worry about usm failing its vision? Don't you think that students have diverse opinion is a good thing? from your blog, You who fight for student's activism want students to raise up their voice and view their own opinion, don't you but why you fear? You are actually contradicting on yourself.

Look at the RM 450million Sains Park and its facilities--reflexology,day care centre..? You know or not? Tell me about what is the connection to sustainability and what to do with our Apex Research university? Why not more research equipment???

Please please update yourself. Open your mind. One reason of the so called environmental movement is popular internationally because of media's bombard. You don't know media can be controlled? (like Malaysia now) Take an example. When you open the internet and you search for global warming-- all you can see about are these scare mongering things. If you are good researcher, you will change the search keyword and search more and more. Why you don't have update on scientists who do not agree with global warming? And again, one thing about the global warming theory is based on CONCENCUS not by sound scientific research. DO you have any prove that your belief is backed by sound scientific research??

" I dont want to elaborate on the failing coal technology and relations to the climate. IT IS TOO OBVIOUS.."

Actually, u have any prove again coal carbon linked to climate change? I just want to remind you that today you can live here with more better life because of the industrialization that begin with coal.

You no need apologize or worry. Just need to learn how to do research. If have chance lets have debate for good. (for USM's good since you are so concern about USM vision)

Thank you

An open debate deserves an honest and sound reply.

Dear Anonymous,

Scientists have always been on the debate in regards to GW,CC and SD. They have also been debating about how our Earth was created, about dinosaurs and not to mention about life in outer space. By virtue of how Abe welcomed your reply and commented on it, i believe he has been very open towards debates.

As a student of mass communication, and even as a citizen, I have always known that the media is state-controlled. But these environmental issues are real.Let us then keep watch. The news says that an Environmental Assessment Report would be made. Now, we need to keep watch whether it will be made known to the public. Just like how houses are being built on slopes.

Oh yeah, I wonder why does the gov not ask the Environment Department on where to build the plant (or any other big projects) before deciding it?

Anyways, I may not be able to prove to u that coal tech correlates with environmental concerns right down to the details, just like how I may not prove alien life on Mars. Its too big a factor for simple or even advanced research. Or with a Google search.

However, given a personal choice, would we not use new technologies that are much more efficient and better? True, six coal plants generate our electricity and we have benefited from it. But does that mean we should continue building new ones, when we are capable of more? Should we continue using a candle when we have a torchlight? Even when the candle have benefited us for years. Just like how we need more research equipments, that I am sure are more better than the old ones.

A university aims to educate the young minds to think. A thinking that is critical, visionary and above the rest. When these minds stop thinking (or dont even think in the first place) the university have failed in its role. And a failing university is a liability to all, as the education quality is compromised.

Again, debates are a healthy option, but no hitting below the belt please. A debate is an exchange of ideas and a good one does not use personal attacks. I hope I have made a good example by not using any in my comments.

USM student,
Edmund Ngo
